How much CBD should I take?

The CBD dosage size one takes depends on a number of factors, such as body weight, age and general state of physical/mental health.  Our first recommendation is to follow the label on the bottle. Additional information behind that recommendation follows:

The first major factor is your body weight. In general, 33mg of CBD for every 100lbs of body weight is the generally agreed upon oral dose size at this time.

Purported positive effects of a daily CBD dosage of 33 mg per 100 lbs are:

  • Relief of localized pain and joint aches
  • Reduction in seizures, muscle spasms and their duration
  • Calms anxiety
  • Helps with sleep
  • Stimulates appetite
  •  

    The eyedropper will deliver approximately 1 mL if you fully squeeze the bulb.  For a typical tincture, there is 1000 mg CBD per 30 mL(1 oz) bottle so each dropper will contain approximately 33 mg. 

    Absorption into the bloodstream via oral methods or sublingual administration are typically slower as the cbd is absorbed (or rather mal absorbed) in the gut or under the tongue and metabolized through the liver.  Our recommendation is to hold the tincture under the tongue about a minute before swallowing. 

    There is no shortage of anecdotal evidence suggesting that CBD helps with a wide variety of ailments and conditions. “Full Spectrum” products boast the most, in terms of claims, and the public’s belief in the health benefits of an “entourage effect” has the market creating a wide array of products from tinctures to edibles to topicals and so on.

    Regardless, it’s best to consider that:

  • CBD is known to act as an agonist in the endocannabinoid system.
  • In contrast to THC, there are no specific receptors for CBD that are known at this point in time.
  • Our biochemistry and CBD has not been completely mapped out, therefore the interactions with other medications you are taking are unknown.
  • The science is still unsettled when it comes to CBD products and their impact on human health. Preliminary research shows promising medicinal value, while holistic claims peg CBD as a panacea wonder-drug. With all of that in mind, when considering a CBD product there’s no shortage of variables a consumer to sort through.

    Tinctures: What’s the Best Amount of CBD in a Bottle?

    The total number of milligrams of CBD that are contained in a  bottle is generally a good thing to look at first. Calculating the price vs. the total number of milligrams can give the consumer a good feeling of the product’s relative value, however, as with anything in life you ultimately get what you pay for.

    There are other, more important considerations for CBD tincture supplements. For instance, “how was this tincture created?” should be another one of the first questions to cross one's mind. Was the hemp extracted using a solvent like ethanol or CO2 or a solvent-less method? Are there any residual solvents left over in the product?

    Oil extracted from “organic” hemp using clean and green supercritical CO2, for example, retains its “organic” certification even after going through the extraction process. For the discerning consumer, who’s looking for a relatively safe and solvent-free product, this is something to think about. 

    Another variable is the amount of CBD in the bottle. Bottles containing 500 mg, 1000 mg and 2000 mg of CBD are flooding the market, but are they all created equally?

    While the higher price-tag of a 1,000 mg or 2,000 mg CBD bottle may seem off-putting at first, it’s actually a bargain buy as you’ll be consuming more CBD in smaller doses using the measured-dropper thereby dosing less frequently and extending the length of time between purchases.

    Tinctures: CBD Dosage Size Information

    A 33 mg dosage for every 100 lbs is a good starting dose size. Total daily doses could range anywhere from 45 mg to 180 mg per day for every 100 lbs of body weight.

    While calculations can get wonky, it’s important to dose responsibly and to gradually increase the dosage size of CBD after monitoring effects during the first 48 hours. While CBD is not dangerous, it’s not recommended to exceed a total dosage size of 700 mg in a 24-hour period.
